Squirrel!

This sly squirrel enjoys eating our bird seed.  Every now and again, he lifts the whole feeder off its hook and drops it on the ground.  Whenever one of us sees him do it, we go out and yell at him.  I've even thrown flip flops at him.  Nothing keeps him away!  He cleaned us out today.  I'm going to have to look into ways to keep him away.  Any ideas?
Our poor bird feeder is being assaulted by a squirrel!

Maybe if you put a stuffed animal in the tree...you know something to scare him?

My parents had a similar situation. They finally broke down and got the bird feeder that has a tray that closes it off when you put more than a few ounces of weight on it. Good luck!

one of those little bastards chewed its way thru the lid of a heavy duty rubbermaid container to get to the birdseed inside... my dogs wanna catch that fat rodent so bad, they do a special dance at the door till i let em out.

old salt peter powered projectiles may help. otherwise I've heard some scents will scare away squirrels and chipmunks but birds don't mind. I just don't recall what they were.

Sorry, I am no help on keeping the squirrel out, but he looks to be quite nimble and clever from the picture! I've heard talk of squirrel-proof bird feeders, but I don't know how squirrel proof they actually are. We got one for my brother-in-law that's sort of a round cage with the feeder in the center, but since I don't think he's filled it in awhile, I don't know if its claims to keep out rodents are at all true. Good luck!
